Brushed suede, blockquotes and a redesign.

August 21, 2002 | Comments 2 Comments

I spent most of last night painting my room (it hasn’t turned out quite as planned, “brushed suede” is a bit harder than it appears) and working on the redesign of Asterisk*, which went much better. Here is the new template - check it out.

I have a style that I like, and I went to work on the Movable Type templates to get it implemented. I spent hours trying to get it to display properly in Netscape 6 and Mozilla, but it just doesn’t look right. You can read it, and the design is about 95% there, but for some reason I can get the backmost layer to display correctly.

The templates validate in XHTML 1.0 transitional and CSS (although I did have some problems with my blockquotes, it seems if you want to use an inline “block” style you need to uncheck the “Convert line breaks” box in Movable Type and markup your entry yourself to avoid a nesting problem that the validators catch) so I wonder what is up. Oh well, I’ve spent enough time on this - Mozilla and Netscape viewers will just have to deal with 95% for now - unless I have an epiphany.

If you have an epiphany, please, please, send me an email and let me know.
