What I'm reading.

Books.
I’m almost finished with MTIV. It’s a nice read, if a bit light. Which is ironic because it took me forever to finish. I just don’t have as much time to read as I’d like. I did have two new books come in this week. Building Accessible Websites and Eric Meyer on CSS. I’m looking forward to spending some time with those, but doubt I’ll go cover-to-cover.
On the reading tip, I’ve been forcing myself to do more recreational reading. I mean I’ve got my comics, which I love because they are a quick and dirty pleasure that at the same time lasts and lasts. When I was a kid all I did was read. Now I feel lucky if I can get an hour a day in. In any case I decided to try and tackle Jordan’s Eye of The World series again. I remember when it first came out, I was still in school and I tore the first few books up in no time. I loved them. As time went on I became less interested, I think because of the vastness of the tale and the time off between books. I’d get a new one and I’d not be able to remember who everyone was and what plotlines were what. I’m not the only one who was frustrated by this, I think Jordan has taken a lot of heat.
Anyway, I decided that I’d wait awhile and then start all over again and see if maybe reading the series from the start would bring the necessary momentum to get me through all the books. Right now I’m in the middle of the second book, The Great Hunt, and so-far so-good. They really are great books. I have a feeling I’ll get through them all and be happy with the series again. Only to wait 4 to 6 years for the completing volumes to show up! Oh well.
On the Web.
Been loving all the OSX goodies and general interesting commentary on Todd Dominey’s site. I’ve also been really interested in what Zeldman is doing with is redesign, although he always makes for a decent read. [stop] design is another good one I’ve been looking at lately, I like his real world perspective. Speaking of which - I’ve also been enjoying some logs of the less well known in the whole Web community - those who don’t have the visibility of the Zeldmans, or the Pilgrims (love the Halloween CSS) - the everyday Web developer like me. Sure some of them don’t get to post as much, but heck, they have a job to do! It’s nice to see people out there who have to deal with the same challenges as me, those who might not have time or reason to switch their site to an all CSS/XHTML design or master all the intricacies of RSS.
Here’s to all my Web peeps who are keepin’ it real with the day to day grind yo! Peace.

Another comic reader? Rock on! What’s on your reading list? Recently I needed to relax and have a good laugh so I reread the Preacher collected editions. Damn fine work.

Preacher is great. Let’s see. My current regulars are League of Extrodinary Gentlemen, Out There, Lucifer, Fables, Rising Stars. Red Star is great but not sure where it went to, Hellboy and other Magnola stuff. Hunter and any Sandman or Dreaming spin-offs. I also occasionally pick up Top Cow titles like Tomb Raider and such, when I’m looking for a cheezy read. Darkness was one of my favs, can’t wait for that to come back.
I’m a big fan of most the the Vertigo stuff - Sandman being my all time favorite. Can’t really say anything bad about Gaiman - Coraline and American Gods were two of my favorite reads last year.

Goods picks, a man of taste ;)
Yeah a big fan of Gaiman myself. Buying Coraline for my little sister. Halfway through the sandman feature. If you’d like a new read try some of Sam Kieths work. He was the artist/writer of The Maxx and has come back with several new short series. Check out Samkieth.com.

I’ll do that. Maxx was a fun one - I have the original arc somewhere in my boxes. Remember when that went to MTV? Classic.
