Brian Fling tells us why he thinks Safari will make a huge impact on the Web. Can’t say I disagree with him.

Come on, the entire argument falls down when you consider Apple’s market share. Which is why the author says the number is more like 30% market share of home users. I don’t think so! And nobody is going to switch to Apple just because of a browser.

Well, you’re right – I don’t think anyone is going to switch to Apple just because of a browser. I don’t think anyone beleives that. As someone who switched I can tell you there are lots of other reasons to switch and I think what Brian is saying is that people are switching and when they do there is a good chance that Safari will become their default browser. I’m not sure about that 30% figure either, but that number is growing, no doubt about that.

I’ll tell you what WILL get people to go to Apple. Those Apple stores. They won’t get too many people to switch but they WILL get new users. I’ve never been an Apple guy except for when a friend had a ][e back in the days. But I spent an hour in the Apple store at the Mall of America recently and was really impressed. The stores are clean and crisp, and the machines are simply gorgeous.
But still, let’s see Apple’s market share get to 5% before we worry about 30%!

No doubt, we’re getting one in here soon. Can’t wait for that. Those store and the fact that Macs are great machines. Really, I know, I was a Windows user for the longest time, I had a g4 at work with OS 8 and I hated it, but my new machine with OS X is flawless so far and my PC is all but out the door.
Anyway - regardless of the numbers I do think Safari will have a big impact. Aside from all that I’ve been using it more and more and it’s really growing on me.
