Practical Personas over at Evolt.

February 11, 2003 | Comments 3 Comments

I’ve had another article published. It’s called Practical Persona Creation and it was quite a fun article to write.

It describes my experience in creating personas. I’ve found it a very interesting process. I also think there is a place for personas in every Web professionals arsenal. Give it a read, I hope people find it interesting and helpful.

Nice timing, I’m just about to attempt writing my first personas. This article looks like a great article to get me prepped.

I hope you find it helpful, I tried to make it pretty straightforward for people who are just starting to explore using them.

I’d like to hear your experience with it when you are done.

I’m also thinking of making available some “persona sheets” to help in the process. If you’ve ever played D&D (I know my dork factor just went way up, but hey, I used to love that stuff when I was a kid) they would kinda be like customizable character sheets for persona creation.

You know like OS instead of HP and Browsers instead of Weapon Proficiencies, etc. I Thought it would be both fun and useful…anyway, I’m going on vacation for a few days, I’ll explore the idea when I get back.

After reading the article I found it helpful as a general overview but would have loved more specific examples, it’s funny but in all the articles on the subject I had a hard time finding any with actual Personas! I think the template idea is well worth the effort as it would plug the gap, also I’d love some examples of personas used in open-source projects. Where the flow of information is entirely digital, no labs, no in-person interviews, and ways to cope with such hurdles.
