Macromedia Beta 1 Report.

March 18, 2003 | Comments 0 Comments

For the last few days I’ve been going through, and mulling over Macromedia’s Beta 1 progress report. If you are a Web developer, designer, etc. and haven’t read it, I suggest you do. It’s really good stuff.

I was very interested to see what all they’d changed, and not all that surprised. They took some of their Flash navigation and rolled it back to simple HTML. I’m sure they had good intensions and probably all sorts of internal reasons to use Flash, but in the end, since it didn’t solve any problems that HTML could not, the more simple of solutions won out.

I’m a bit disappointed to see the resource tray navigation go. I guess there were some performance issues, but I rather liked it and thought it was a great showcase of how to use Flash to enhance navigation. Then again, it seemed to load fast and fine on my machines. On the other hand, I didn’t find myself using it all that much.

In any case Kudos to Macromedia for letting us pick their brain a bit.
