Macromedia Redesign

Macromedia has a new site. Looks good. I’m not 100% in love with the “look” of the site, not sure why, but I do like some of the new features and the general function of the site. Which is a bit more important to me.
The news and events menu is really cool, and you have to love the drop down, “tray” navigation, Mac column view style. Brian and I have been tossing that idea around for awhile. In fact I’m really glad to see others have thought of the same thing and implemented it so well. Another nice feature is the scrolling “status” bar that lets you know who far into the intro you are and fast forward or rewind if you wish.

Oh so that’s what that scrolling thing does! Interesting, but why? How about just a skip-this-stupid-intro-and-open-the-neato-column-style-navigation button instead? And why does that “great experience, great business, great tools” menu pop up when I mouse over the scroll thingie? There’s no interface element that makes me expect that. The whole interface isn’t very snappy either, but that just could be my processor. Overall, it has some nice features but feels too much like interface overkill.

I do agree with you about the “great” menu - although I didn’t really think about it till you brought it up.
As far as interface overkill - I agree with that as well, but I was looking at it from a “wow look at that idea, oh and that one” and not a user perspective. It is a bit much.
At first glance I was impressed and interested, now that I’ve gone back I think they could tone it down a bit…I do love the resource “tray” menu thing though.
