iTunes 4 and the Apple Music Store

Wow.

As I’m sure many of you are aware, Apple released it’s latest version of iTunes which includes access to the new Apple music store. Well, I’ve been playing with it for an hour or so, and I have to say it’s killer.

If you’ve no intention of ever visiting the music store there isn’t a huge difference between your old iTunes and the new iTunes. They’ve added a few nice features, like the album cover display, but for the most part if you want to keep on using iTunes as you’ve always been you can do that.

If you’re like me and decided that CD’s are a thing of the past and prefer to have all your music in digital form, the Apple Music Store will be of great interest. They’ve really hit the mark on this one.

It’s very unobtrusive, just a simple playlist looking entry that is a window to a larger storefront. What’s great about it is that it uses a somewhat enhanced iTunes interface to search and browse for songs. It’s almost like looking into a huge playlist that you can buy albums and songs from.

The selection is decent, and I’m sure it’ll get better as time goes on. I didn’t have too much trouble finding something I wanted to buy (Jason Mraz - Waiting for My Rocket to Come) and the purchase process with easy and quick. I bought the whole album for $9.99 — not a bad deal. You can also buy songs for $.99 each.

The download was quick and now I’ve got a new album in my library. No trips to the store, no pop-up adds or other obtrusive advertising. No hassle. Really, even if you have no intention of buying anything, you should check this out. It really is a marvel of awesome design and great implementation.

The music store/iTunes 4 integration is very nice. Now if they could get some more independent labels on board, I might actually buy some music with it.

Yeah, no doubt. I imagine they will as it seems like a natural fit for indie artists.

Yes I love the itunes service. So many albums today have one or two good tracks the rest just filler. Purchasing individual songs is a great way to weed out the mediocrity, thanks to services such as itunes you no longer have to shell out 18 dollars for a 15 songs album just to hear the one or two good tracks.
