On Usability Myths.

Over at 37 Signals there is some debunking of the debunking of usability myths going on. In the original article, Usability Myths Need Reality Checks, the assertion was made that some very common usability guidelines needed to be questioned and I think that is the case, regardless of how that conclusion was reached.
The bottom line here folks: there are no hard and fast rules when it comes to usability. None. I challenge anyone to come up with a rule that stands up every time, with every user. One thing we can tell from both of these articles is that it is much easier to disprove a rule than to prove one. In his presentation at UI 7 West, Will Schroeder made this point. Why it wasn’t articulated as well in his article I don’t know.
