New Feature - Song of The Week
May 12, 2003 6 | Comments (Closed)
So after a little pain and frustration, I’d like to introduce you all to my newest feature, the Asterisk* Song of The Week.
What I wanted to do here is just open up a little more in the way of musical dialogue. This site is mostly dedicated to Web type things, but in my day to day life I spend much more time talking about music then I do the Web. I figured it’d be fun to bring some more of that online. So, once a week, I’ll be doing my best to feature a band, album and song. I’ll make a little post and add the song to my Flash/XML/MP3 jukebox up there to your top right (see it!?!) so you can have a listen while you read.
Hope you enjoy it.

Cool idea, but won’t this destroy your bandwith?

I doubt it. Even if it was heavily used, which I tend to doubt it will be, I’m not too worried about bandwidth.
Thing is, I have a bit of a unique hosting package. I’ve had my site for about 7 years and back then I did a deal, that is still intact today, that I get unlimited space and bandwidth. It’s not all that cheap, but not too expensive either.
The hosting company figured that most people wouldn’t use all that much and if a few did, it would all equal out.
I think now they offer some other solutions, but I’ve got the same one I’ve had since the beginning.

That is nicely integrated, works beautifully (in Safari anyway) and really, really cool. I really dig it.

Works and looks great in Mozilla too! Any chance of a tutorial on how you did it?

Thanks for all the great comments! I’ve gotten quite a few and many requests for a tutorial as well. I think I can whip something up, at least and overview. I’ve been really busy lately but as soon as I have something I’ll post it here. Until then, enjoy!
