Another Standards Based Site

Crongrats are due to Christian for launching Meadowcreek Mastiffs, a very nice looking site built with valid, semantic and amazingly clean Web standard code.

Nice work.

Shame the alt text for the navigation images is “”. With images disabled or otherwise unavailable, the only links on the page are an email link, and a Site Credits link. (If anything, the credits page is worse then the main page when viewed in lynx).

This isn’t going on my list of good examples.

I’m quite sure he’ll live.

Anyway, I’m sure Christian will have fixed that as soon as he gets a chance and let’s take a minute to praise him for making a step toward Web standard code and not be so quick to jump all over him for what I’m sure was a simple oversight.

We have to remember that some folks aren’t as well versed in things like accessibility and the like as others. And many people who read this site don’t have years and years of experience under their belts.

I’d prefer if we took the time to educate rather than blindly point out a site’s mistakes. All in all I think this was a very good effort.

IF we are going to praise people for taking a step towards Web standard code, then lets do that. Lets not praise people for meeting goals they are still working to achieve.

David, David. Did you read my post? That is exactly what I did and nothing more. You’re the one who decided to nit-pick off topic.

No, you said it was “Web standard code”. There is more to the HTML standard then validating against the DTD, and by not having suitable alt text the specification is being violated.

Oh for cryin’ out loud, thanks for the “education” David, but next time, let’s try and keep our comments constructive and in the realm of the useful.

This site isn’t (usually) about debating sematics so I’m not going to go there. I’m sure most folks who read this post understand the essence of the post, which was to praise someone for trying to do something many others don’t even bother to try to do.

If you wanted to you could find something wrong with just about every site out there, with the sole exception of yours I’m sure. If you wanted to point out a way to make the site better – do that – don’t bother to let us know that it’s not going to be added to your list of good examples.

A) No one cares and,

B) It’s nothing but rude.
