The Artist: Aesop Rock
The Song: No Regrets
The Album: Labor Days
Released 2001
There hasn’t been too much to rave about in the independent Hip-Hop and Rap scene lately so I’m going to take a trip back a few years and pull out one of the greats. Aesop Rock.
His album Labor Days is one of Hip-Hop’s all time best, and it did it’s part to change the face of independent Hip-Hop. Aesop is an artist with unique style and confidence who shines though a genre often muddied by trend and hype. I could go on, but I’ll let the man speak for himself.
For this week’s song I chose a story rap, “No Regrets”, for what are rappers if not storytellers. It’s one of the more creative of a host of creative cuts on a fabulous album. So it back, relax and enjoy Lucy’s story.

Great recommendations. I myself am in Minneapolis (Atmosphere’s origin), and heavily enjoy the sounds of the indie hip hop scene. Atmosphere + Aesop + Anticon = tripple threat. They put on a great show, and if they ever come around your neck of the woods, DO NOT miss out on seeing them perform live.

Nice choice. I just saw Atmosphere in the London (staying here for 6 months on www.bunac.org.uk work permit program) and it was a good show as usual. Still, are we going to see a tutorial on how to do this song of the week stuff? I want to make one too!

Hey Trevor, wish I had time to whip up a tutorial, I’ve just been too busy. If you want you can check out this link to something very similar:

Also, if you search around I’d bet I’m not the only one who has built one of these.
