SOW: Eriatarka by Mars VoltaThe Artist: Mars Volta
The Song: Eriatarka
The Album: De-Loused in the Comatorium
Released 2003

This is my early front runner for album of the year.

It’s hard to express in words the feeling I have for this album, but I’ll try. Well, now that I think about it, “fucking awesome” about sums it up. It’s got a truly epic feel to it that is somehow heavy and light at the same time. The Mars Volta aren’t much like Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd, as they’ve often been compared to, but they seem closer to that than they are to At The Drive In. Although they do more than fulfill the promise that ATDI kind of left hanging out there.

De-Loused in the Comatorium is a modern classic, criss-crossing through various genres with a frantic passion that weaves its way track through track taking the listener on a runaways train ride on rails of pure energy. This album has everything a true classic rock record should.

Every track is a mini-epic unto itself, yet when listened to as a whole it’s got something that much more special. This is definitely one you want to pick up and listen to the whole thing, no iTunes one song business. This weeks song “Eriatarka” gives you a great feel of what to expect.

Recommended if you like: At The Drive In, Sparta, Led Zeppelin, Cursive, Radiohead, The White Stripes

The Mars Volta will spiral out of control just like every track on De-Loused. They possess the talent and motivation to spark change in the music industry that seems to only churn out whiny pop and emo devoid of any new sounds or chords for that matter.

i think mars volta has gathered from many sources. they have also the most unique musicians and not only that but they have to be on some drugs to be creating some crazy ass shit that they come out with. i always listen to de-loused high and it always is the best selection of music to listen too. they are up there with pink floyd and led zeppelin to me. this band is great every way you look at them.
p.s ——> DRUGS ARE GREAT

so kelli, you saw the mars volta with at the drive in?? wow lucky you! you must have been in some alternate universe because the mars volta has NEVER played with at the drive in, because ironically at the drive in is omar and cedric’s (guitarist and singer)old band.. yup thats right. omar and cedric split from at the drive in and made the mars volta. leading to DeFacto (made up of most of the members from The Mars Volta) and Omar rodriguez lopez’s solo albums. The other half of at the drive in formed a popular band called sparta. So that look of jealousy was most likely a look of catching you in a lie.

I know this is an old topic, but I thought I’d share this info with you all.

this is my favorite song on the cd

here is the website for the book in pdf format.

http://www.goldstandardlabs.com/marsvolta/DeLoused_storybook.pdf

and here is the forum website

www.thecomatorium.com

This book is very figurative and metaphorical. A real academic challenge, but amazing. I have read it twice and picked up different things each time. Also, get out a dictionary and ask a well educated person to translate the spanish. the spanish is very metaphorical also, the literal meanings don’t mean much, unlike the espanol in the new cd “Frances the Mute”. stick with it, and you will eventually understand the crazy journey Cerpin Taxt takes through his mind while in the coma.
