SOW: 3rd Planet by Modest MouseThe Artist: Modest Mouse
The Song: 3rd Planet
The Album: The Moon & Antartica
Released 2000

Labor Day weekend is one of my favorite times of the year. It’s the weekend I met Staci and the weekend of the best damn yearly music and arts festival around, Bumbershoot. I’d go into more detail, but it’s something you really need to experience for yourself.

I’ve seen some great bands play over the years and this year will be no exception. Tonight on the main stage, from just up the road in Issaquah, Modest Mouse is headlining the opening night festivities.

I’ve seen these guys quite a few times and they just keep getting better. There was a time when they had a hard time living up to their albums while on tour, but that time is long past. As of this moment they put on some of the best live shows around and if they’re ever in your area you really need to go check them out.

Since I don’t have any really new Modest Mouse songs, as (the last time I checked) their new album isn’t due for a few more days and I’ve not got an advance copy, I’m going to dip into the archive for this week’s song.

“3rd Planet” is my favorite cut off The Moon & Antartica and that is saying a lot because this is one of my all time favorite albums. Released back in 2000 it still gets pretty heavy rotation and I imagine will continue to.

Happy labor day weekend everyone. Enjoy.
