Back in 1995 I built my first personal Web site. We called them Web sites back then, not “blogs”, even though they were very similar.
Back in 1995, I built that Web site by hand, in FrontPage, and used a little program called Image Composer for all my images.
Back in 1995 I’d never even seen Photoshop, Flash was called FutureSplash and I used it to make animated gifs. Lots of them.
Back in 1995 most people were on 28.8k modems so I optimized those gifs with Debabbalizer. It took forever.
Back in 1995 I got my first real job doing Web work, I had less experience and got paid more than I do now.
Back in 1995 I used hundreds of font tags to format my text, the dot com bust wasn’t even a boom and I felt the need to learn Java.
Back in 1995 I didn’t know the difference between Java and JavaScript.
Back in 1995 I got the travel bug, but I hadn’t been to Europe, San Francisco or coutless other places I’ve been since.
Back in 1995 I would have never dreamed of owning a home. My mortgage is less now than my rent was back in 1995.
Back in 1995 my beloved Seattle Mariners were overachievers, not underachievers.
Back in 1995 we hadn’t partied like it was 1999.
Back in 1995 the twin towers of the World Trade Center stood strong and tall and the world seemed a much simpler and safer place.
As happy as I am in 2003, I still really miss 1995.

I’m getting old(er) now, and I’m starting to miss a lot of things including 1995. There are many thing I don’t miss but I am looking forward to them coming round again.
