SOW: I'm Shakin' by RooneyThe Artist: Rooney
The Song: I’m Shakin’
The Album: Rooney
Released 2003

I love music that can take me back in time. Lately I’ve come across quite a few bands who’s music brings me memories of happy times and younger times. Rooney is one such band. Their music reminds me of summers spent having fun in high school. In a word they’re “happy.”

Aside from that I can’t really put a finger on exactly what their sound reminds me of, it makes me think of bands like Haircut 100 or The Go-Gos — you know — feel good bands. They don’t really sound much like them, but it’s the feeling they invoke.

Every song on their self-titled debut is good, it was hard to pick one. They’ve all got kind of a laid back, easy going pop sound that really just makes me think of summertime, think a lighter Weezer. There’s also a kind of California surf thing going on, especially on “Blueside” the album’s first single.

I chose “I’m Shakin’” as this week’s song for it’s energy. If you enjoy it, and how could you not, I’m sure you’d love the rest of the album.

Recommended if you like: Weezer, The New Pornographers, The All-American Rejects, The Go-Gos, The Beach Boys

I liked the song. But what I liked the most is that you dig the song so much. I also love those songs that have the power of letting us travel in time. Green Mind by Dinosaur Jr. does that to me. Thanks for the song.

Glad you like it. The SOW player is built with Flash that imports an xml based playlist and “on demand” mp3 files. To be honest, it’s got a few problems, caching being the biggest and I may look to rebuild it if time permits.

In the mean time, I hope people continue to enjoy it as much as I do.

Rooney is the best rock band I have heard in a very long time, unfortunately I live in denmark - not exactly the next place they will visit! “If it were up to me” is being played like 200 times a day in this house!

I’ve been a fan of Rooney’s since their album hit stores last summer. The music is wonderful, the image is hot, and the album is all-around great. I agree that it is hard to pick just one song on this album as a favorite, but “I’m Shakin’” would definitely get my vote if I had to.

It feels like opening night for the first day of our lives…when the curatins close, and the audience goes home, I am let alone…and it seems to me the scenery isn’t what it used to be… So farewell as I bow for one last time, ‘thank you, and goodnight’…and as the lights begin to fade, on this stage where our lives were played, I don’t think that any of us were really ready. And just take steady steps, were not there yet just dont let my hand go..but if I lose you in the dark, please just know… that it gets harder as the days go by to picture you out of my life. Why does goodbye mean forever? And I hate to think of you apart from me becase all these years you were apart of me. And now we close that chapter in our lives. And honestly it breaks my heart…it breaks my heart…

I really love this band since the first time I saw them on the GREATEST show EVER “The O.C.” I just fell in love with their song “I’m Shakin’” and couldn’t stop singing it. Now I have their album and I can’t stop playing it. They’re really great musicians. Tons of Love Guys and Good Luck!
