SSX 3 - Review

Damn this game is too much fun! Whew! Ohh boy does Electronic Arts know how to make a game! Their “Big” series is awesome. A few months back I picked up NBA Street Vol 2 and lost quite a few nights on my way to becoming the biggest, baddest, green afro-wearing, sucka-ass dunkin’, high-top sportin, all kinds of smack-talkin, baller on the block. Street was a damn good game, one of the best I have on my XBOX and SSX 3 follows right in it’s footsteps.
This game reminds me quite a bit of the first time I ever played Tony Hawk, way, way back. It’s one of those games that hooks you right away and while it can be a bit of a challenge to master certain aspects (some of the tricks are hard to pull off) the payoff is such that you’ll stay up all night practicing that one special “Uber” trick.
From the opening sequence on you can tell that this is a great game. The graphics are amazing, there was obviously quite a lot of work put into making this game not only fun to play, but fun to watch. It’s one of those games that is perfect to play with a group, either at the same time or taking turns trying to out do each other.
The sound is great as well. The voiceovers aren’t anything too special, but occasionally funny and the DJ, which could have easily become very annoying, is actually fairly informative and actually pretty entertaining at times. The music is great, a good mix in general, if at times bit too techno for my tastes. I was pleasantly surprised to find some Swollen Members remixes on here, including “All Night.”
What really makes this game is the sheer size and detail, both graphical and technical, of it all. Some of the runs are huge, taking almost a half an hour to complete. The variety of terrain and challenges is staggering, from the storm-blasted, avalanche ridden third peak, to the metropolitan city-scape of the first, it just crazy. When you really get going it’s all a blur of rails and crazy tricks, it reminds me of the old Sonic the Hedgehog games at times. And you know those were fun.
It’s not too realistic, like Amped, for example, but what it lacks in realism, it makes up for in plain old fun. Like all the “Big” games it doesn’t take itself too seriously at all and really goes over the top at times, mixing sport with an old-school arcade feel. You never have to worry about bailing too hard, or losing momentum, it’s really easy to be back into the grove, keeping the action going.
I highly recommend SSX 3 to pretty much anyone. If you can’t have fun playing this game, you might want to avoid the couch and controllers all together.
My rating: 5 out of 5.

Too bad this game isn’t in Europe yet. SSX was the first game I bought when I got a PlayStation2 and it was a _lot_ of fun.
NBA Street Volume 2 is also a lot of fun, especially with the multi-tab and three friends :-)
(use the label element in your forms please, it is though to use a form without, once you get used to it)

I started with the first SSX, didn’t like SSX Tricky at first. Now I love it! Now for the big Question. I have $50 dollars for Christmas. Should I buy Tony Hawk Underground or SSX 3.I would like to hear from someone who has played both. Thanks VANHALN

Whoa! it blew me away the first time i played it, the music the syle the adreniline is amazing.SSX 3 has improved a lot from tricky as the players and the movements all look more realistic and the snow comin off oyour board when your pullin off a sick move is killer. Also another good addition to SSX3 is Griff, not as good as mac but still a good character! Overall best of the three. Buy it! 10 out 10 Wicked!

This is one of the best game i ever played the graphics are amazing and music choice is awsome to. It has improved a lot since Tricky, just the fact that the whole game is based on a single mountain has given SSX3 players a new great feeling of competition. I also think that the peak challenges are very fun because you link many tracks into one, making your game time much longer and much more fun. I would say it is the best game since Halo eventhough they are not comparable but i still like it and i think that everybody should at least play it once (trust me!!!)

SSX 3 owns! I wish they would have gotten rid of Elise already, however. I know a lot of people will hate me for that one, but they should have replaced Elise with Brodi in this one! Don’t tell me that you can get Brodi through cheating because I already know…but that it just my opinion.
