A term you’ll hear often here at F3 is “audience appropriate.” In my mind this is one of the most important factors in deciding how to address a Web site’s goals. Because of it’s nature, Flash is a technology that relies heavily on audience appropriateness for success.

You serve a Flash page or application to the wrong audience and you’re doomed.

Tdcollins.com is one site that is very audience appropriate.

He’s developed a personal portfolio that delivers a unique, yet surprisingly intuitive, user-experience coupled with an absolutely gorgeous design.

From what I can gather the focus of the site is to showcase Thom’s music, which is one of Flash’s stronger points. This is done very well, in such a way that it’s seamless and highly engaging.

By choosing Flash and putting what seems to be a quite a bit of time, thought and effort into his design and the way he delivers his content (the focus of which being the music) he’s been able to create a site that is very audience focused and very functional.

While the site does have some traditional accessibility and usability issues, I would guess that most of his visitors don’t mind. Those who have a high appreciation for motion, design and music all blended together will likely have no problems accessing his content via Flash.

Tdcollins.com shows the potential of Flash for an art, photography or music portfolio if the audience targeted fits. Well done.
