Yankees Vs. Marlins - Worst World Series Ever?

I’ll apologize right now to any Yankees fans out there, although I really, really don’t want to.
What about Marlins fans? Do they have any? Well, ok. Sorry Daniel.
Wait..I take it back, screw you guys — your teams are in the World Series.
Anyway, could there have been a more disappointing end to the playoffs? I mean here we were on the brink of having a battle of the curses, with two teams that are so due for a World Series win, to having the two least deserving teams I can think of battle (heh - yeah right, the Yankees are going to crush the Marlins) it out.
I don’t want to imply that they don’t deserve it based on their play on the field. But as far as their organizations and fans go, I mean come on. The Yankees go every year due to their less than fair advantage over the rest of baseball. I still don’t understand why, if the Yankees can have all there exclusive TV deals, why the Mariners have to share all their Japanese profits with the rest of the league. But I digress.
Normally I’d be right there on the Marlin’s bandwagon, but didn’t they win the World Series in 1997, then turn around a break up the team? And yeah, I know they have new ownership and all that, but excuse me if I have a hard time getting behind a team who drew less than 20,000 fans a game.
Anyway, the baseball season is pretty much over in my mind, the series could have been so interesting, but now it’s just looking boring. I guess I’ll root for the Yankees to get it over with, I mean, at least their fans supported them all year, every year, forever. Argh, damn Yankees! And I suppose I’m kind of happy for Bret’s little brother, Aaron, even if I am still a little bitter the damn Yankees bought him out from under the M’s.
My prediction: Yankees in 5.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Marlins make a serious run at it. They are a better team than most people are giving them credit for.
Now that I know the Cubs aren’t going to win, I’m a happy man :)

I understand what you mean. I went from proclaiming this as possibly “the best playoffs ever” and “history in the making” to not even wanting to watch the World Series now.
Pitiful. So…….Go Capitals!

Why aren’t people giving Florida some credit here? They beat the team with one of the best records in baseball, the Giants, and the Cubs who had Mark Prior and Kerry Wood (2 of the best pitchers in baseball) back to back. They play great fundamental baseball (get a hit, move em over, and bring em in). They also have a pretty good/young pitching staff that can get it done.
I’m not a Marlins fan by any means. Even I wanted to see a Cubs vs. Sox series. I just believe the Marlins have proven that they belong. This should be an interesting series. I say Florida can take it to 7 games provided they keep playing the way they have been.

I think the Yanks will take the Marlins to lightly and the Marlins have less to lose. Marlins in 6 (and I mean that).

How about we have to do something to our sites for a week. Like display a cheezy banner for the other’s site, or “dye” the site purple or something?
That might be kind of fun.

I’m not a fanatical supporter of the Marlins; the fact is that I don’t usually follow baseball (it’s never been my type of sport), but I can certainly get behind a winning team (weak, I know) and cheer them on all the way. That’s how most of this season has been for me with the Marlins, especially once they brought Conine back (Mr. Marlin!)
For the Marlins to get into the World Series, playing their asses off, and fighting for every inch (as opposed to their “purchased” win in ‘97), how can you say they don’t deserve to be there? Sure, to have had a “battle of the curses” would have been the sentimental way to go, but the fact is that one of the teams in the World Series actually deserves to be there, because they earned it, and that’s what the sport should be about, no matter who you are rooting for.
My prediction: Marlins, in no more than 7 ;-)

Dan, I have no problem with the Marlins as a team – in that respect I think they are great. I say that in my post. What I have a problem with is getting behind a team that drew about 1/6 of the fans my hometown nine did.
It sucks to know that a team that was very weakly supported by their own fans is in the World Series. That’s what I mean by them not deserving it. No offense.
They’re a really fun team and I guess I’m happy for those fans that did show up.

There is no way the Marlins will pull this off.
The Yankees are the team that deserve to be in the World Series. Face it they are the best team in baseball. Always have been always will be end of story. The young inexperience Marlins will choke. That first game win, hope they savored it well, cause its going to be the last one they see against the Yankees.

I’ll say right from the beginning that I’m a fan of the Yankees, but I’m not knocking the Marlins, I think that both of them played hard to get where they are at and they both deserve to be there, but no doubt about it the yankees are going to win.
I also think people should stop hatin on the yankees just because they make to the world series every year, the yankees are the best and people need to get used to that.

The Yankees aren’t stupid, let alone the fans. Anyone with half a brain knows that the Yankees were beat good and plenty on game seven. The only reason the Sox lost was because (Grady)Little wouldn’t pull Pedro. I felt sorrow watching Roger leave the mound, he’s one of the best pitcher every to play the game. But still, he got pulled in the fourth, with 4 ER, no outs, and runners on the corners.
The Cubs? Now that’s a team that just choked. I’m sorry, but even the Sox came back in the ALDS to beat the A’s 3 games to 2. The Sox had everything it needed to make a great winning world series team, just like the Patriots two years ago, comradery and spirit.
After the game seven loss the general feeling was that RedSox fans would become instant Marlins fans. Which is fine, but that’s a larger fan base than they had in the begining.
The Marlins win the world series? Cool. The second time in the teams ten year franchise history. The Yankees win? Probably. But no one is going to watch it anyway.

Mario: You must be too young to remember the horrible Yankees of the early 70s, early 90s, and ALL of the 80s…

Well, as far as the Yankees go they are the best. I think the Marlins are playing a good game but they are no match up for the Bronx Bombers

OH ADAM STOP WHINING ABOUT GRADY LITTLE. (YOU WANT SOME CHEESE WITH THAT WHINE)YOU AND ALL THE SOX FANS THAT NEED A SORRY EXCUSE FOR LOSING TO THE BETTER TEAM, THE YANKEES. YEAH THE SOX HAD EVERYING FOR WINNING A WORLD SERIES, EXCEPT THE WIN TO GET THERE FIRST. THEY LOST AS A TEAM, PERIOD, NOT BY LITTLE.

Excuses? Did you even watch the game? Boston had one of the best bullpens in the post season allowing only 2 ER. Its painfully obvious that we wouldn’t be having this conversation, and more people would be watching the world series, if Embree went in and Timlin closed. I’m not going to say the Yankees are horrible, thet’re not. If you were to mention 25 of the greatest baseball players of all time, a good majority of them were Yankees or played for the franchise at some time. My point is the Yankees need to be brought downa peg or two, if there was not skirmish at game three the Sox would have won, and becuase of a napping manager the Yankees are where they are today. Deep down inside everyone has in some way excepted that fact, including most sports critics.

I love baseball-MJH you sound like a sore loser- so NY has more baseball-lovin’ people-so what? I mean the Marlins played a beautiful game, with no fear - and the Yankees were simply no match-get over it. It was THE Real World Series, the only one, and no other would have been better. It was not a disappointment at all, actually, I’d call it an awakening for the infamous $180 million payroll team-Maybe the Yankee boys should start playing in accordance with their paychecks????….;-)
