ReUSEIT! Contest Entries

November 04, 2003 | Comments 9 Comments

The deadline has passed and we’re in the process of judging the entries to the ReUESIT! contest. All of the entries are in and have been posted for your enjoyment. There are a few really good designs, some great ideas and lots of variety.

There are two or three that seem to stand out in my mind, but I’ll leave it for you to decide which you think are best. It’s been lots of fun, and my ballot has been cast, so now I guess it’s time to sit back, wait for the other judges to weigh in and unveil the very deserving winner.

It’s too bad Jakob isn’t interested in a redesign. Based on some of the work I’ve seen he could do quite a bit better than what he’s got now.

Wow, what an interesting selection–I can see you must have had a hard time judging that lot! For what it’s worth my top 3 (very quickly chosen) are:

1. http://larsholst.info/designs/reuseit/
2. http://www.mikepick.com/neilsen/
3. http://spingree.cals.wisc.edu/532a/projects/erika/REUSEIT/OCT23/useitcleaned.htm

Too bad there’s not some way for the public to vote on this as well…

The public?? Who cares what the public thinks?!?!

Haha, no you’re right, that would have been interesting to have a public vote.

I personally liked this one the best by far:

yeah…a certain percentage of the final vote left to public vote could have been good (but might have been abused somehow, i guess). but yeh, good stuff all around (and yes, i’m biased…)

It’s interesting to see that the majority of people looked to keep things simple, which goes along the lines of what Jakob’s says. However, in none of them did one section of the site stand out. Almost all of the elements on the pages have the same weight. I shouldn’t be talking since I procrastinated so long I wasn’t able to send in a submission. Oh well back to the vault for me…

Like you said, Keith, the best ones really stood out a mile. Most seemed to have something of a Zen Garden mindset–let’s see how different I can make it look; but not how do I make the site more more usable, more appealing and keep the brand identity.

I sure think that Jacob is at least obliged to give his opinion on the redesigns…

After he snubbed my invitation to participate in the judging process (OK, snubbed is a bit harsh… he did not return my emails…), I simply decided that he had been issued the invitation, and if he wanted to participate in any fashion, he was welcome to do so. I personally haven’t notified him that the entries are available. I figure he’ll see online somewhere eventually, and if he cares, he’ll check them out.
