The VGAs vs. The Commies

December 08, 2003 | Comments 0 Comments

It seems like there are new award shows popping up all over the place. Well in the last few days I’ve had the chance to check out two of them. The Comedy Central Commies and Spike TV’s Video Game Awards.

The Winner? The VGAs.

The Commies — which I had high hopes for and actually planned on watching — sucked. The sole exception being Triumph The Insult Comic Dog who was hilarious as usual. Then again, all he did was pretty much make fun of how bad the show was and how they couldn’t get any real talent there.

To be honest, they did have some talent. Chris Rock, Will Ferrell, Dave Chappelle and Adam Sandler were all there, among other great comics. Oh yeah, they were there alright, they just didn’t want to be there.

I’ll admit I didn’t watch the whole thing, I just got bored with it.

The VGAs on the other hand weren’t half bad. I stumbled across it, not having heard of it so I had no clue what to expect. Aside from some really wacked winners (Enter The Matrix for best game based on a movie? That game was horrible) it was pretty entertaining.

David Spade was the host and he was funnier than 90% of what I saw on The Commies. They also had some really entertaining “outtakes” from various games that I enjoyed — the one from Gladius about the Roman hookers was great.

Throw in some really hot chicks, some loud music, Tony Hawk’s Boom Boom Huck Jam, a few porn stars and you have the makings of a pretty darn good show.
