In a complete departure from last week’s song, I’d like to present a dreamy (pun intended) pop song from one of my favorite bands, Ozomatli. This week also marks the first week that a band has made a second appearance on my Song of The Week!

Ozomatli is one of those bands that really stands out. To me anyway. I’ve got nothing else like them in my collection and I see them every time I can. They put on the best shows around, period. They’re last three shows I’ve been to have been the best I’ve seen in recent memory.

If you’re not familiar with them they’re kind of a Latin hip-hop samba, funk, salsa, political, rock, pop, party band. Labels aside, they’re very, very good and put on one hell of a show.

The name of their current tour is the “Warm Up Your Cold Booty Winter 2004 Tour” and that pretty much sums it up. I saw them Sunday and while it was cold and rainy outside, it was very hot and sexy inside. Every single ass in the place was moving and grooving and the band was on fire.

What I’m getting at is that if they come to your town make a point to see them. I know they’re coming to the UK in a month or so. Also, for those you who are going to SXSW and plan on staying awhile, they’re playing down there and I plan on dragging anyone who wants to get out and party.

Back to this week’s cut. “Let Me Dream” is a real departure for Ozo. It’s the first non-rap all English song I think they’ve done and it’s very different from their usual style. At first I wasn’t sure if I liked it, but after a few listens it really grew on me. I especially love the horns and the hook.

The rest of the Coming Up EP is great and really shows off what Ozomatli is all about. Its even got a killer remix of “Cumbia De Los Muertos” — one of their best songs. It’s well worth the very low price and I think you can listen to most of it at their Web site.

Anything by them is very highly recommended
