John Kerry Referral Spam?

I’m sure this is happening to lots of folks. My refer page has been really hit hard with spam this week. It didn’t really bug me until I noticed that John Kerry’s blog showed up in there.
I mean I can deal with Paris Hilton and Licking Lesbians, but a politician spamming, that is where I draw the line. At least with the porn sites I know their agenda for trying to hijack my site.
Between that and the whole ridiculous nonsense about Janet Jackson’s boob, I don’t know, I might just stay up in Whistler this weekend. Not a good month to be an American.

I never really jumped on the Kerry bandwagon; I’m still deciding who among the remaining candidates is best. But, in matters like these, it’s always good to remember that Kerry might not know exactly how his web promotional team does their deed.

Yeah, I just got one earlier today, too. My recent refer spammers have included hummer and pro-music - this is a very annoying trend.

Yeah, I deleted my directory where my refer program was sitting because I was getting it way too hard. Really sad. I wonder if Kerry knows about that kind of stuff or not.

I’ve been able to pretty much eliminate them from my referrer logs by getting rid of any referral that goes to a page ending in .php . You could probably rename the index.php file to something like control.php (changing all of the other files that depend on index.php using a find and replace) and then ignoring files with that name.
Spammers have to ruin everything.

I have been getting the same for some time. Most of the porn spam has been coming from blogspot, so much in fact I have made attempts to block all referrers from blogspot and blogdrive. The politician spam does not always link to the politicians sites as one or two have redirected to porn sites.
I have been using blocking many of the referrers with an .htaccess file. Each day in the past two weeks I am adding five to eight URIs into the .htaccess file so to block referrer spam sites.
The sites that the spam are pointing to seem to generate a new round of hits once the page is opened. If the link in your referrer log is clicked they now have your site as a valid site that is in their referrer logs and can be used to creats more garbage links. The traffic this crap is generating is unwanted and eats up resources I paid for and are limited. Too bad their is not a way to send a virus back to these losers.
