A Crow Left of The Murder by IncubusThe Artist: Incubus
The Song: Beware! Criminal
The Album: A Crow Left of The Murder
Released 2004

Those who know me well might have been able to predict this week’s song. Incubus has been one of my favorite bands over the last few years and I’ve been waiting for A Crow Left of The Murder with baited breath.

I was late to the Incubus bandwagon, having written them off after hearing only a few of their songs, as simple Top 40 rock. It’s not that I didn’t like “Drive” when it came out, I did, I just didn’t think the rest of the album would be that good for some reason.

I was wrong. When Morning View came out I had a chance to listen to the whole thing right off and discovered a really talented, unique and interesting rock band that had been under my nose the whole time. I went and picked up Make Yourself, listened to it and kicked myself hard for missing out on such a good thing for so long.

A Crow Left of The Murder, much like Incubus’ other works, carries their distinctive sound, but at the same time has a different feel to their previous stuff. My first impression wasn’t all that great. But after 3 or so runs though it has really grown on me.

I instantly liked the first single “Meglomaniac”, and thought it was a bit different from their other singles. There is no real “Drive” or “Warning” on this one, and that’s a good thing. Well, maybe “Here In My Room”, but that has more of a mellow sound than their previous singles.

It was very hard to choose this week’s song “Beware! Criminal” because they’re all very good and each one showcases a different bit of Incubus’ talent. In the end, I let iTunes choose for me. It chose a good one.

Don’t miss this “A Crow Left of The Murder”, it’s a classic.

Love Incubus! Thanks for the heads up, I’ve been waiting for the new album as well. I was blown away with Morning View. This band are a talented bunch and write incredible songs. There’s not too many bands that are in this league as far as talent. One band that I would put on the same level is Stone Temple Pilots … in their heyday.

Check out S.C.I.E.N.C.E. if you haven’t already. It is easily one of Incubus’ best and most unique albums :)

Damn straight Chris. I have trouble listening to any of the new stuff after Morning View, just because those awesome basslines are non-existant in their newer stuff. What happened to songs like Redefine or Anti-Gravity Love Song?

That said, I agree that the new album is pretty good. Nothing they haven’t done before really, but that isn’t a terrible thing.

Chris – I love S.C.I.E.N.C.E.

Matt – listen to “Sick Sad Little World”, it’s not “Redefine” but it’s got a pretty wicked bassline.
