How do your categories work?

April 05, 2004 | Comments Closed

Summary: I am currently using TypePad and want to switch to MT to have more control over my site. Do you use different “blogs” for different sections of content or do you segement the site by “Category?”

From Sam Felder

Well I actually use different categories for everything except the FAQs you are reading right now. Even my Quicklinks and External Essential Links are just different categories within my main blog.

I explain how that is accomplished here.

There are other ways to do that, I just find my site easier to maintain if I use one blog with categories for different areas.

I also work on a large Movable Type driven intranet and for that each section uses it own blog. The reason why is that we needed some extensive customization for each section and it made sense to do it that way.

So I guess it depends on how you are using MT and what kind of site you are building. Either way has it’s advantages.
