KEXP: Great (Internet) Radio

I’ve been wanting to pimp KEXP for awhile and today seemed like a good day since I just donated to their cause, and because today it was announced they won the Webby for Best Radio Web site. It was very well deserved.
You know I love music and KEXP has been a big part of my life for years now, bringing all sorts of great music into my life.
For those who don’t know — KEXP is a great local, non-profit radio station in the Seattle area that is so much more than simply that. They’re presence is felt all over the world.
They have one of the best radio station Web sites you could imagine. I mean, to take one example, you can not only view playlists (live and up to the minute), but listen to archived playlists! How cool is that?!?
Of course you can listen live as well via various streams, either via the Web site or iTunes, etc. And there is so much more on the site. Reviews, event listings, education and all sorts of other stuff. They also feature a clean, easy-to-use (if old school) design.
The best thing about KEXP is their tagline/moto: Where The Music Matters!
They really back that up. I find many of the bands you see featured here on the Song of The Week via KEXP and many more besides. It is simple the best place I can think of to find out about new music.
Check KEXP out. You’ll love it, I’m sure.

This is one of the things that make the web such an incredible tool. Internet radio rocks, quite literally. Thanks for the heads up on another great listen. I’ll push one of my favorites here. I’ve been listening for a few years off and on to WOXY, out of Cincinnati. Find it at woxy.com, or by their tagline,”97x, The future of Rock & Roll”.

I’ve passed them on the dial and sometimes stopped and received a nice little reward. I remember them as KCMU and didn’t realize they had changed call letters.
I’ve lived in the Seattle area for quite some time now and never realized what they had to offer. Their site is cool also.
Thanks for the update.

KEXP simply put – rocks! John in the Morning baby! He’s great and the only person who’s introduced me to more great music than you have Keith!

They seem to do a lot of talking, at least when I tuned in. I’ll have to give it a chance I guess…

Great site, but after following your link to their site, I was stuck there. I would like to back my way to your site & I’m sure others would too. Why do sites lock you in when you click on the Back arrow? It doesn’t keep me there or endear them to me …

Rafal – Yeah, it’s usually just music, music all the time.
Chuck – I think that might just be because of the pledge pop-up thing they’ve got on right now. Also, I didn’t get stuck like you did, even with that. Curious.
In any case don’t let that reflect on the actual content which it the music.

This thread was a month and a half ago, but I’m going to mention this anyway: KEXP gave away tickets to a show to the tenth caller recently, which is no big thing in and of itself, except that it was for a show in Washington DC. Thats a total embrace of internet radio and really puts them out front.
