The Artist: New Found Glory
The Song: Truth of My Youth
The Album: Catalyst
Released 2004
I’ve been a fan of New Found Glory for awhile. Call it a bit of a guilty pleasure. Of all the pop punk bands out there, and there are a slew of ‘em, I like them the best.
I don’t really know why. With each new release I expect them to let me down, or expect myself to finally get sick of it, but it never seems to happen. All it took was two listens to get me to really enjoy Catalyst and one more to be hooked. Just as I was with their previous records.
Let me be honest. New Found Glory is what it is — great, infectious, and cheesy pop punk. If your looking for “art” or “something different” you won’t find it here. But if you looking for a rocking good time with some great summer sing-along type pop songs, Catalyst is for you.
It reminds me of High School, even though back then I was mostly into Metal and Wave. So, sit back, don’t think about it too hard and enjoy “Truth of My Youth” from New Found Glory
Recommended if you like: Yellowcard, Green Day, Blink 182, Story of The Year, Sum 41

I liked the old punk/new wave bands like Television, The Adverts, New Age Steppers, Public Image Ltd. (up to “The Flowers of Romance” CD), The Raincoats, The Homosexuals (I’m hetero though), The Au Pairs, Second Layer, Bomis Prendin, Armageddon Dildoes, The Only Ones, The Soft Boys, Violent Femmes, etc.
New discoveries: Johnny Q. Public, Room Full of Walters, Speck.
Having grown up on the Sex Pistols, Ramones, Dayglo Abortions, Siouxsie & the Banshees, Bauhaus, Throbbing Gristle, Joy Division…
…bands like Green Day and Offspring seem like extremely wimpy wannabe bubblegum pop punk sillies. Yet they all had some good songs here and there. Blink 182 had a good naughty type song, I fergit the title.
So this Catalyst CD may be good. I’ll try to find it.

Good choice.
I was glad to see NFG’s success hasn’t changed their (already poppy-punk-radio-friendly) style too much over the past few albums.
And, one of my favorite things about them is that you can always count on a crazy hidden track at the end.
Back to my lurking,
Brandon

If you haven’t seen NFG live, you should :) They are exactly what you said, a lot of fun. I like the pick you made from their new CD. Good call Keith.

NFG is quickly becoming one of my favorite bands. Some of there remakes really blow me away.. but their own stuff really kicks the lamas ass. A nice change from the mellow alt rock that is spreading about… true punk here.

I’d throw in The Living End in the NFG-type pop-punk guilty pleasure category. Australia can’t seem to get enough of them, apparantly.
