A Great Maui Vacation

July 25, 2004 | Comments 11 Comments

Maui Sunset

I’m back from Maui and it was great.

I’ll have more news and photos as soon as I’ve had some time to unpack and catch up, and I’ve got some “regular posts” coming soon, but in the meantime I thought I’d give you a little taste; some observations and some tips on having a great trip to Maui.

  • Go see Warren and Annabelle’s Magic Show in Lahaina. It’s worth every single penny and much more fun than any Luau I’ve ever seen.
  • Maui can get expensive so always remember that some of the best things to do are cheap or free. Rainbows, sunsets, the mountains and the ocean don’t have to cost a thing.
  • Sunscreen. Sunscreen. Sunscreen.
  • A cheeseburger in paradise is simply that and nothing more.
  • If you’re on a diet, leave it at home. There is some great food to be tasted and chances are you’ll be active enough not to put on too many pounds.
  • Speaking of great food — David Paul’s Lahaina Grill is amazing.
  • Rent snorkel gear for the whole week, you’ll probably use it. Also, make sure you get good, comfortable gear.
  • “Mountain view” is almost as good as “ocean view” and it’s much cheaper.
  • Maui is a good place to get married, propose or honeymoon.
  • Don’t go skinny dipping in the ocean at night — bad things can happen and you might lose something.
  • Make sure and take your vitamins — you’ll need them.
  • Coconut and Macadamia nut encrusted ahi is awesome.
  • Kaanapali is a great beach, even though it’s really crowded.
  • Manta rays are extremely cool!
  • It’s good to have a Jeep, even if you don’t drive much. A bit spendy, but good.
  • An organized snorkel cruise is great for large groups.
  • A Maui vacation with friends and family is as good as it gets.

I’m not sure I want to know the answer to this but what did you lose while skinnydipping in the ocean? If it’s shark-related, please withhold the details. :)

Well welcome back! Estelina and I went to Maui for our honeymoon. Maybe I am just sentimental, but I love that place. At first I thought it was a bit too laid back, but by the time we had to leave, I was all about the hangin loose bruddah. Biking down Haleakala was awesome! Snorkeling was great! The people were very cool. We are definitely going back some day.

Ahhh! Relaxed life. Don’t you wish that the vacations last a little longer?

And, the more you wish, the shorter it seems to become.

I am not sure what Keith lost while swimming around in his birthday suite in Maui but I have a good idea that Keith made one of the most imporant decisions a man can make in his lifetime. Come on Keith, share with us, your readers are dying to hear the news.

I knew there’d be some speculation about the skinny dipping. I didn’t loose anything myself – but my friend lost his wedding ring…but yeah, we found out afterwards that it’s pretty dangerous to get into the water at night in many places because of sharks.

Oh, and Nick – I’ve got no idea what you are talking about. ;)

I can run in too many different directions with the skinny dipping thing. All I can say is I am proud you finally became a man :-P

Hi,

I have never been to Maui. In fact I just googled up Maui, and found that it is situated in Hawaii.I’ve only been to Hawaii once, and that was only for a transit to LA.

From the picture you put up there, Maui seem to be a beautiful place.

Oooo im stil guessing what you lost during your late nite skinny dipping.I presume you did it late nite cause during nite time, there should not be many people around :P *Am rite ??*

Scrivs – haha…didn’t think of that one. Guess I should have expected that. Nah, lost THAT long ago.

Irfrandhy – Yeah it was night time. But there were lots of people around… ;)

Get your minds out of the gutter folks. ;)

Maui is great. I was there in May and had a great time. FYI, if you ever get the urge to blog while on vacation, there is a deli (sorry don’t remember the name) between Lahania and Napili right past the golf course in the little plaza that has free WiFi if you bring your own laptop, or you can pay and access their computer.

I’ve never taken a vitamin pill in my life. Do they not have fruit and vegetables in Hawaii? :-)
