The Artist: The Hives
The Song: Diabolic Scheme
The Album: One Plus Tyrannosaurus Hives
Released 2004
This is your host, DJ DKR, broadcasting from HOTlanta. I’m gonna keep this short, as I got things to do.
The Hives are feisty, that’s much is for damn sure. You can here it in their music and see it in their crazy antics. I, for one, love it all. It makes for great entertainment and The Hives are on top on my list of bands I’ve not seen that I want to see.
But it’s not all about getting crazy on stage and at after parties. They wouldn’t be who they are without the music, and The Hives represent good music. They burst on the scene with Vendi Vici Vicious and haven’t looked back since.
They’ve come hard with more of their signature sound on Tyrannosaurus Hives (what an awesome name for an album!) so let fans of The Hives rejoice.
Sure it’s a bit corny at times, and shallow and repetitive at others, but it also rocks and they’ve mastered a great sound. It’s party rock that doesn’t take itself too seriously. It’s about the sound, and the sound is great.
They do have a bit of diversity in their drawer full of rock, take this week’s song for example. “Diabolic Scheme” to me is the stand-out track on Tyrannosaurus Hives. It’s fully “Hives” as is evidenced by touches of their distinctive sound, yet it’s a bit different as well. I do with they had more tracks like this on this new album, but, as I do like most of the other songs as well, I’m not complaining.
If you are a fan of The Hives, or just into crazy, run, party rock Tyrannosaurus Hives is right up your alley.

I believe you’re missing an ‘r’ in strokes ;)
I’m looking forward to reviewing this one myself eventually. Good stuff.

I feel compelled to say that Diabolic Scheme is not the most typical Hives song.
A rant could be written how making a consistent and good album isn’t exactly their main field of expertise.
P.S. Am I supposed to sprinkle in a few head and body tags to make this comment ‘Valid XHTML’?

I believe I namedropped The Hives in one of your earlier music rants. I have to admit that I haven’t been too fond of The Hives albumwise before but there’s something on this album that is more direct than before.
And Keith, if you have the chance to see The Hives live on stage, just do it. It’s one helluva experience. :-)

Sven-S. – Yeah, I agree, but I like that about them and I mention that Diabolic isn’t typical at all.
Oh, and yeah man, all I need is a crapload of “body” tags on this page…
Jarno – I like this album a bit more as well…
