The Sweet Spot

You may have noticed I’ve been pretty quiet lately. Well, my new job is killing me. Just kidding. It’s actually pretty good so far, but it has been time and energy consuming (as well as somewhat stressful) as I try to sort out where and how I fit in. It’s pretty typical actually, my title is “Information Architect” but that’s not really what I do. You might know how it is.
Because of that I’ve just not had the time or energy to work on personal projects (The Blue Blog is dying a quick death) or post much. You may have noticed I abandoned my Quicklinks as they were getting stale and response to e-mail and comments has been minimal.
What free time I do have has been eaten up by World of Warcraft. Geeky, but surprisingly fun! I don’t expect things to change soon unfortunately.
Be all of that as it may, I’ve not been completely tied up. I’ve been keeping up with my Editor in Chief duties at Digital-Web and we’ve just publish an article by yours truly. It’s called Finding The Sweet Spot - Bridging the Gap Between User and Business Goals and it’s all about the struggle to balance the goals of the user, while still making sure a Web design does what your clients and stakeholders want it to do.
Give it a read. I hope it helps some folks and stirs up some discussion.

Then what race/class/level are you now? Hehe, there needs to be a standards-compliant guild. ^_^

I warned you about that damned game! Though I must admit, I was driving home one night and actually considered stopping and buying the game. Fortunately, I convinced myself not to.

Ok, for anyone who might want to stop by and say hello. I’ve been a loner in the game so far, not having played it much BUT here are my (I think) current details.
Server - Feathermoon (??I think??)
Name - Rowan
Class - Rogue
Race - Human
Level - 14
God I feel like a nerd. But it’s fun!

That’s a really great article Keith. Very well done.
I’m especially impressed with what I think is probably the best definition of “branding” I’ve come accross.

I thought about getting WoW as well because:
Considering my existing obsession with CounterStrike, I decided to avoid the MMORPGs for the moment… ;)

I feel like a geek too due to my WoW addiction. To add to my geekdom I wrote this little Mac menubar app to let me know when my server is up. It feeds my addiction.

I know something about that. My official job title is “Applications Coordinator”, and my actual job has very little to do with that. I do mostly back end coding and a ton of SQL work, and a TON of writing reports based on the SQL work. A more apt fit would be “Datamining and Reporting Expert”… LOL…
Ah Well… what can you do?

Relax everyone, if he stops showing up at work and his mother starts emailing around asking if anyone knows where he’s at we will be able to find him… online… playing WOW. Though it will be a sad day if Staci has to login with her on account to remind him to take out the trash. :P
Anyway, great article Keith! Thanks for spending the time to write it up.

Keith,
Thanks for the update; I figured that was the case. I, too, have had little time for personal web projects or blog updates - it’s that darned work thing. Oh yes, and moving into a new home.
Oh, and being consumed by Doom 3 - boy is that a scary game! Turn the lights down low and your headphones up - very spooky!
WoW sounds cool, but just a little too geeky for me. Plus, I think the wife would divorce me if I got wrapped up in it…

Feel like commenting about the html of the WoW homepage? I’d be curious about what you have to say.

Jesse – Umm, no comment? Really it’s not the worst I’ve ever seen…but it’s not good either, and that’s pretty typical.
