Design Eye Panel At SXSW

January 27, 2005 | Comments 30 Comments

Y’all remember Design Eye for the Usability Guy? Well, we’re talking it live for South by Southwest. Here’s the “official” gist of it:

Design Eye for the Idea Guy
Join the Design Fab Five — Andrei Herasimchuk, D. Keith Robinson, Cameron Moll, Ryan Sims and Greg Storey — as they tackle their next project: redesigning the personal web site of one of the blogosphere’s more vocal design provocateurs, live and in person even. Who is it? You’ll have to show up to find out! Just as they did with Jakob Nielsen in the original Design Eye for the Usability Guy, they’ll do a soup to nuts redesign while handing out tips and techniques for attaining killer design in the process. Greg Storey also promises to do some magic tricks.

You’ll note that Ryan will be playing the role of Didier. It’s not ‘cause we kicked him “out of the band.” He’s just busy galavanting off in Italia. But you never know, he could make a cameo!

It should be informative and will no doubt be fun. And, no we’re not telling who our “victim” is!

Quick related note: The original Design Eye was (not exactly) featured in the latest issue of Communication Arts.

Was planning on being there, but due to some things that came up, doesn’t look like I’ll be able to make it this year… Kinda bummed about that one - everything I’ve heard about this year’s SXSW sounds great… Good luck with the panel; I hate to miss it!

Andrew, I was thinking the exact same thing! (Yes, I have a chatlog of it! ;) )

Anyways, Keith, too bad I can’t make it :( Birthday and test week. Boy, do I enjoy the combination.

Yet again I have to miss SxSW, last year it was a shortage of funds, this year my new quartet has shows booked for that weekend (grrr). At least I’m not on any of the panels… hey wait, why am I not on any of the panels? Didier and I should have a panel on Budget Design, a live followup to our popular eBook… :)

Break a leg Keith, I’m sure you guys will rock the house!

Ohh, I know who it is! I know, I know! But, it sounds like it’s a secret, so I won’t tell. :)

I was initially thinking I wasn’t going to be able to make it to SXSW, but it’s now looking like I might be able to after all. If so, i’ll definitely be at this panel.

And Ryan is a great choice for Didier’s replacement. Midwest Represent!

I’m really not going to say, if’n it’s a secret like Keith makes it out to be. Scrivs certainly qualifies as one of the “blogosphere’s more vocal design provocateurs” – sooooo….maybe? :)

Looking forward to the panel Keith.

Jeff - glad you may be able to make it. Hopefully we can get that Know-nothings thing together.

Does anyone know when they are going to release the panel schedule? I have to fly back on Monday, so I am hoping that I don’t miss anything good on Tuesday.

Yet another reason to be bumned I’m not going to SXSW. At least I’ll be in San Diego, with the rest of my family, for my cousin’s graduation from Marine Core Basic Training (Yeah, we’re tight like that), and not sitting behind a computer.

Awesome! Your panel is right after ours, too. It’s going to be a fun afternoon of redesigns all around. :)

Just to kill any speculation it is not me since my site is visually perfect and anything that those 5 goons do to it will completely ruin the thing and therefore will make the panel boring as hell.

hehe

If I were those five goons, I’d be calling an audible right about now. :)

I fear no redesign! Careful though, by redesigning my site for free I think you are devaluing the industry and therefore putting others out of a job.

Sidenote: where in the hell is the ‘remember me’ button?

Dan – Bummer you can’t make it.

Croft – Glad you’ll be there! And it is a secret, so shut your trap if you think you know.

Jeremy – Hell yes on the IKNFL thing. Don’t know about a schedule. We’re on Monday eve.

Eris – You in the HTML vs. Flash Game Show thing? That sounds like a blast! I really want to see that one. And you owe us for switching times with you. ;)

Kevin – We’ll miss ya man. But SD is no slouch. Have fun.

Scrivs – You should be so lucky.

Keith- I *might* be there. Not 100% for sure yet. And, I don’t *think* I know, I know I know! But don’t worry, I’ll shut my yap. :)

Eris and or Keith - Where did you guys find a full schedule of the sessions/panels? Do you guys have one since your on the panels? Is there anywhere I can get one? Thanks!

Awesome! I’m going this year, and I’ll be there! Sounds very promising.

And my guess is: Tufte (although I’m not sure he qualifies as “one of the blogosphere”).

Keith: this sounds like it will rock the SXSW world. Very much looking forward to it.

Eris: I’ll be in the crowd for your panel as well. And don’t worry, you’ll be able to recognize me, no problem. ;)

Scrivs: still hungover? by that time, you should be tearing it up again, no?

This is going to be fun… see you all there!

Pfft. Come on, Keith, admit it – it was close enough to being featured. We got like 20 words, hidden way in the back of the issue, spread over two pages to make it look bigger, no less.

Damn. I currently live in Austin but this is to change in a matter of two weeks. I have been here for THREE YEARS folks…couldn’t you have put this together a wee bit earlier? Geese. New job or SXSW, new job or SXSW hmmm. Tough choice. ha! Best of luck! Sounds like a great panel. Break a leg.

Cheers - Jeremy

Unfortunately, I wont be able to go for this years’ event due to a Photoshop Event in Las Vegas. I wish I had enough time to make an appearence. Just by reading this post makes me want to be there badly. Anyways… I’m looking foward to being there next year(next event). I just imagine that would be thrilling to be with you guys learning. Hopefully I’ll make it next year.
