CSS Reboot

I’ve been slowly working on the next version of Asterisk, which isn’t exactly a redesign but something new and built from the ground up. Anyway, I got an email from Adam talking about an idea to help get some standards-type sites into the May 1st Reboot.
It’s always kind of bugged my that it was so Flash oriented, even if the intention wasn’t to make it exclusive for Flash site.
ANYway, Adam got to talking with some people and he came up with CSS Reboot. To be honest, I’d have preferred a more inclusive solution, you know, so as to not do the same thing the May 1st Reboot does, but, hey, this’ll do. And I guess there is no reason why we can’t do both, eh?
So, I’ve now got a deadline for the new version of Asterisk — May 1.

I’m in the process of a redesign (or, bottom up rebuild) here too - I am switching hosting providers (to Textdrive) and switching to Wordpress (after playing with it and loving it).
Maybe I’ll shoot for the May 1 deadline too :)

Well, I was recently thinking about a redesign… but May 1… that’s not enough time for me. Personal redesigns should be perfect, so no deadlines.

I like Adam’s idea… and if I could actually use my back button (give me back my browser “designers”!) to get off the Reboot site I’d be more impressed with it.
I think I’ll join the CSS Reboot, but I’m not prepared to kill my site for a week so the flash folk can bite me! :-P

I swear… i always hear about these things after I launch a redesign. And I’m sure as hell not doing another one by 1 May…

I’ve joined the CSS Reboot too - although my site isn’t web-design-centric (it’s a poetry site) it uses CSS for layout (with switchable stylesheets so people can change the “theme” of the site).
The site as it is looks a bit amateurish, and I’m in the process of re-designing anyway, and the 1st of May sounds like a doable deadline.
I have no dream of “winning” (actually, I didn’t realise it was a competition until after I’d signed up) as I’m not really a graphic designer, just a writer with an interest in semantic web design. But hey, it’ll be fun.
And is it just me, or is the May1stReboot site really hard to use? ;) Man, what is up with that mystery meat navigation?

Sounds like a fun idea and as I am already working on something I might join in the fun. What is the point of taking your site down for a week? Is this some special thing that only the Flash folk understand? That part seems pointlees.

I’ve just pushed back my redesign till may first. Until then I have a temp design that will be up in a couple of days. My problem now is that I like my temp design too much…

I’m in! Thanks for the tip.
I’ve just got my site up and running on typepad with a stock design, six weeks should be just about enough time to get it looking pretty given that I only spend a couple of hours a week on it.

great idea, I can see loads of other sites joining up, looks like I’ll have to mark may 1st in my diary from now on. If I had a diary that is, ha!

Whilst I won’t be participating I do find it slightly.. ohh what’s the word… ironic?… that the CSS (that’s CSSS) reboot campaign asks that you have Flash installed before visiting the site.
I’ll keep an eye on the date though - ohh and yes, why would you want to close your site for a few days?? Most odd indeed.

Nice to see that you have joined in Keith, when you say it isn’t a re-design as such does that mean that you won’t be changing the design at all.
I havn’t even thought about my design yet as I am still waiting on my host to sort out Mysql and upgrade PHP so that I can install Wordpress.
am looking forward to all the great designs that are going to hit the web on the 1st
Cheers, Tom
