Last Minute Prep For SXSW

March 10, 2005 | Comments 8 Comments

I leave tomorrow morning for SXSW, it’s going to be great. I fully plan on updating (a bit) from Austin, both here and at the brand spankin’ new PBDH Blog — Open House.

Posts not relating to SXSW will probably stop for awhile. I know I don’t think we’ll have a Song of The Week for a couple weeks. In any case it’ll be fun. If you’re there do stop by the Design Eye Panel or just say hi if you want. I’ll be the one (usually) taking notes by hand and not referring to the festival as “South By.”

Also, for those of you who are interested there is also a Flickr group for SXSWi and my stream may have some interesting shots as well.

I’m jealous, of all of you going to SXSW. Not just for the web designers, but for everything. Austin has always sounded like a great, hip town.

I was always curious about SXSW just because of all the music, it wasn’t until last year I found out it was this all encompassing event that included such interesting stuff like web design. Too cool.

Enjoy yourself, should be a blast.

I agree with Justin, but you know, with all the top web guys in Austin, maybe it’s time to put the full-press sales tactics to work and swoop in for all the work they are missing out on! ;)

Understand you might not answer right away, but a question:

Why does the PBDH Blog not share in the same branding as the corporate site?

Not implying good or bad here, just curious as to the thought process - since I know from your work there is always a very well thought out, in depth one!

Thx.

Dave P – Ah ha! Very good question. There are a few reasons. One, we wanted it to be a fun place to show of some more of the personality of the company. We thought giving it a different look would entice people to some degree. The rest of the site is a bit corporate in it’s look and feel and we felt the blog needed to have it’s own, more open, nature.

We talked about having it be completely separated from the rest of the site, but part of what we want to do is encourage exploration. So we got creative.

It’s a compromise between keeping the blog part of the site and letting it have a life of it’s own.

Not to derail the thread any more than necessary, but since you mentioned the blog….where’s the RSS feed? :)

I also refuse to call it “South by”. I still dig “Suckswuh”, but somehow I doubt that’s gonna catch on…

Hey, they didn’t think TV or Cereal was gonna catch on either but look what happened to them! Can’t you just imagine a guy walking up to you and saying “How do you get to the Suckswuh festival from here?”

Have fun (D.) Keith.
