Song of The Week: On Hiatus

After almost two years, I’m putting the Song of The Week on indefinite hiatus. Don’t worry, I’ll be back to reviewing and recommending music as soon as I can work a few things out, but in the meantime I need to take a step back and think about some things.
You see, the Song of The Week, and the idea behind it, is my favorite part about doing this site. It’s been great fun and I’ve received so much good feedback, well, I really just appreciate all of it and want it to keep going, only in a bigger way.
The whole goal was to help connect all of you to music. I’m still going to do that, in one form or another. Who knows, maybe the Song of The Week will be back. It’s just that, right now, I’ve got some ideas in regards to music, fans and community I’d like to explore further, and I need some time away from the weekly song to do so.
At the end of the day it’s about connecting people (fans to artists, fans to fans) and spreading the word about some really good music! There are lots of people doing this—very few doing it well.
If you’re looking for some bands to check out in the meantime, try these: M.I.A., The Decemberists, Kaiser Chiefs, Brazilian Girls, Rise Against, The Bravery, Bad Wizard and The Go! Team.

I enjoy that part of this site too, and I’ll look forward to it’s return in whatever incarnation you make it. Kinda funny that you say - hey i’m taking a break from this part of the site which happens to be my favorite part about doing this site. I understand what you’re saying, but it just sounded kinda funny.

All that meaning: you’re formulating a plot to go head-to-head with MySpace.

david – That might be a bit too ambitious…and to be honest I don’t know for sure what I want to do. But I will say that MySpace has been on my mind quite a bit lately.

I was thinking the same thing, David. Whatever you do, Keith, I’m sure it will be cool. Looking forward to it.

I think for buidling a music community it’s not really important to share the actual music in a player, just the titles and albums that one listens to, in a friendly RSS format.
This maybe has to do with how each person listens to music, but an easy way to share musical preferences is by automatically uploading my playlists to a site where they get stored and published in RSS.

Eduard – I agree. There are some sites that do this, but none all that well. It’s too bad there aren’t better ways to actually sample music online legally…but that’s not going to change soon I’m afraid.

Definitely one of my favorite parts of the site as well (besides your wonderful reviews). I look forward to whatever you have planned, and would just like to say ‘Thanks!’ for all of the SOTW’s you’ve done in the past.
