MTV Video Music Awards 2006

August 28, 2005 | Comments 20 Comments

Well, I was supposed to be doing my IKNFFL draft tonight, but the stupid ESPN live draft applet is all screwed up. Guess they never heard of radical simplicity. Ah well, Rome is being recorded and so Staci and I are watching the VMAs.

I figured it might be fun to do a little commentary. So this is my attempt at live blogging the VMAs. Just for fun. You’ll see it doesn’t last too long.

Green Day

Wow, Billie Joe looks all mod doesn’t he? They’re doing a pretty good version of “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” but both Staci and I are wondering why they chose that song, not that it’s bad, just that we can’t imagine most people aren’t sick of it already.

Diddy

He’s a dork. How he got to host this joint is totally beyond me. D-I-D-D-Y. D-O-R-K-Y. Plus I HATE, HATE, HATE “Relax”. It’s one of those songs I’ve been burned out on for about 20 years now. Leave it to Diddy to rip that one as his intro. Whatever. Well, it is pretty funny. And yeah, I am ready. For Diddy to shut the hell up. Long intros have always bugged me, where is the “Skip Intro” button?

Lindsay Lohan

Blond just isn’t her look. But she looks better than she has.

Kelly Clarkson

Staci thinks she looks bad as a blond too. I don’t have an opinion, other than I’m sick of that damn song she won for.

Kanye West

Glad he won. I think he’s pretty great. Kinda strange, but cool.

Beavis & Butthead

WTF? Got to admit this made me laugh a bit. Ahh, it’s been awhile. I say bring ‘em back. Oh and Staci likes them too. She would…

Ludacris

“Pimpin’ All Over The World” was a pretty sweet performance. I like this kind of live hip-hop. Jazzy, live beats. Good job and a nice change of pace for Luda.

Diddy’s Fashion Contest

My vote: Snoop and Eva. But why wasn’t Shaq nominated. He’s lookin’ pretty fly. Either way, I hope it doesn’t take up too much time, I swear Diddy grates on my nerves.

Hammer & The Simpson Sisters.

Too funny. Hammer’s stuff was kind of fun but a bit off. Then the Simpson sisters come in and I’ve had my first laugh out loud moment of the night. Ashley looks cute, but what a geek. I mean, she should keep her mouth closed. And what’s up with the blond!? Aren’t brunettes hot anymore? Don’t get me started on Jessica, she looks like she got hit by truck…a truck full of dead skunks.

Jessica Alba, Dwane Wade & Shaq

Wade’s a great player and Shaq’s killer. Love the hat. But, to be honest, next to Alba…Well, she’s a babe.

Shakira

Don’t know much about her music, but I dug it.

Crunkin’ vs. Clownin’ and Missy

Reminds me a bit of capoeira. But a LA street version. Fun stuff, and congrats to Missy for winning the Best Dance Video. Missy’s killer.

R Kelly’s Soap Opera Crap

Can’t stand this stuff. Isn’t this guy supposed to be in jail or something? I dunno, just not my thing I guess. And a live version. That’s just silly.

It’s getting bad

I may have to quit watching and go back to sorting through my e-mail. Diddy’s talking about himself again…

The Killers…

…I’m so damn sick of this song. Great album. Good live show, but come on, this has been played the f out. Call this strike two.

Shout out…

…unless this “surprise” is truly awesome I’m done. Ok, I like Biggie, but this is pretty corny. Too much Diddy and I’m done. Wait, Snoop, that’s cool…ok another minute.

Knoxville and Common

That’s pretty killer…and I like Knoxville and Common, but I can’t watch much more. After the MTV 2 award I’m done. Fall Out Boy. Not bad, good for them. But I’m bored now and I’ve got lots to do tomorrow.

Well, and hour and a half and I remember why I don’t usually watch this stuff. Most of this was pretty damn boring. I like my pop culture, but in small doses I guess.

Only in America can we watch the imbecility that is the MTV VMA’s, flip a few channels over and watch as 1+ million people scramble for their lives out of a city that is about to be devasted. I don’t write this in a confrontational way, It’s just odd. Did any of the artists even mention the hurricane? I didn’t watch the whole thing.

Nick – I agree. I think some of them did in interviews. But it was done in a pretty off hand way. It’s so strange because it’s so close to them. Clear across the country it seems pretty far away, but it should be right there front of mind for them.

I didn’t watch it.

  • I forgot it was today

  • I wasn’t really that interested in it this year. (probably that’s why I didn’t remember lol)

  • I guess maybe out of curiousity or if my finger slips on the remote, I just might stumble on MTV and watch some of it. We will have to see.

Thanks for the little summary Keith. hehe I digg the “refresh for more” trick (if I may call it that).

    Take care. God Bless!

Didn’t watch them…not much interest. But WTF was up with ESPN last night? Did you guys have that problem last year?

I did catch Kanye and Jamie Foxx last night, but that was about it.

The draft was definitely a bust last night. It kept crashing on me.

I haven’t watched MTV in the last 3+ years and I have to say my life has been better for it. All that channel makes me want to do is write angry blogs.

    R. Kelley’s deal was the most idiotic, unwatchable thing I’ve ever seen. Yet we managed to watch it some how.

Blogging how bad it was actually crossed my mind last night. Thank you Keith, for taking care of this pressing issue for me…

I had thought about blogging the VMAs as well, but then I started watching and had to change the channel soon thereafter, only coming back to MTV in spurts here and there.

How ridiculous was that R. Kelly performance though? I mean c’mon! He’s lip synching to his own song while doing an awful job of acting it out. What a joke!

And Diddy is a complete nerd trying to act “gangsta.” He thinks he’s a great dancer too, but he looks like a clown.
