Every year in Seattle we have a crazy fun arts festival: Bumbershoot. It’s a bit hard to describe, but it’s all about art, fun and music. You’ll see all sorts of interesting things from amazing musical acts to design and art exhibitions and anything in between.
They’re drum circles, rap battles, dance competitions, amazing food, comedy shows, beer gardens, tons of people to watch and meet (I met Staci at Bumbershoot!) and lots of great music. For a taste I’ve done all bumbershoot artists for this week’s ipodarmy podcast.
I’m not going to be able to enjoy it the way I’d like as I’ve got a few other things planned this weekend, but I’m going to try my ass off. I’ll probably be dead tired by Tuesday, but it’s better than being at home digging out from piles of “stuff.” In any case, I hope to catch some great bands (Smoosh and Maktub are on my list today) and generally have a good time. Hopefully I’ll get some photos.
If near Seattle this weekend, you should check it out. It’s not for everyone, but for those into live music and who can handle crowds, it’s great fun.

Kevin – Oh, of course. Flatstock and some of the other exhibitions are one of the best parts of Bumbershoot.

keith- i wasnt really sure how to contact you, then i saw u recently left a comment on this site, so hopefully u get this. anyway, i was doing a top ten alternative album list for my school paper and while i was reading a list i saw your comment at the bottom. it said “I guess your list is pretty good, I just don’t see any of those artists as “alternative” by the original defintion of the word.” i just wanted to know what you thought the orginal definition of the word is, and maybe a few of your fav. alternative albums….just curious. my email is marmar15@hotmail.com.
