I’ve been playing with the much talked about and eagerly awaited Mint Web site stats program.
It’s really cool. And nicely designed, easy to use and read, useful, quick and chock full of referrer information that I find actually valuable. At $30 it’s not exactly cheap (re: free) but it’s well worth the price and I, for one, am more than happy with it already. The only downside was the install was a bit of a pain for me and the instructions weren’t totally clear. But I suspect most folks will be able to get it up and running fairly quickly.
In any case, I thought I’d give my hearty recommendation and a public nod to Shaun for his hard work on this. Great work man. Thanks.

I agree on the not-so-friendly installation. In fact, I can’t get either User Agent 007 or LocalSearches to install, despite following the instructions. Any insights?

Dale – Wish I could help. I was able to muddle through a bit and managed to get it working without any “errors” really. I did have to make a few mental leaps to get there though. I’m sure if you sent Shaun an e-mail he’d get back to you once the initial rush has died down.

Your link’s got some problems, it should be www.haveamint.com.

I thought the instructions for installing Mint were not as “clear” as I would have liked. But I have gotten spoiled by the install scripts provided by Expression Engine, they practically step you through the process. But, I did think the installation of “Peppers” was pretty easy. Just drop the folder(s) in the peppers/shauniman folder, then go to the Mint control panel, select preferences, and click the install button.
Now, the only strange thing I recall is seeing flashes of the display when the install was happening, and it would have been nice if the location of the install button was easier to spot. But otherwise fairly okay install.

I was surprised there was no out-of-the-box display feature for IP/remote address of visitors.

All the hype going around at the end of last week about this Mint thing really irked me. It’s just a stats tool, not exactly ground breaking.
Don’t get me wrong, typically 3rd party tracking tools provide grainularity that normally doesn’t exist with log analyzers and are therefore very useful/interesting to the website maintenance crew (admin, marketing, etc..).
It’s disappointing to hear all this hype and then come to find out that Mint only works in certain environments (sure, the most common environment, but still) and the demo has been disabled (too much interest, due to the hype).
Mint should be as simple as including some Javascript in your pages and that’s it.

Looks to me like a glorified version of ShortStat. Nothing spectacular. Personally, I’m going to wait for Re_Invigorate to re-release with v2. Now that’s innovation…IMHO of course.
None the less waaay tooo gooo! Woot! Woot! Go Mint go! :)
