Thanks to my new friend Glen at Dreamhost (have I mentioned how great those guys are?) I’ve been able to dig myself mostly out of the mess I created trying to get my site in order yesterday.
There are a few lingering issues, so please pardon the weirdness as I work them out. If you find anything really broken, please let me know. Sorry for the inconvenience — I realized this week that I had some pretty funky things going on with my domains. I felt it better to just take care of ‘em now.
All should be fixed soon.

Yeah, I think Google might have penalized me for having a duplacate domain (dkeithrobinson.com) or something. I mean, I can’t see any other reason to explain my drop in traffic.
I still have great SERPS in Yahoo, but Google now places people who simply link to me above me in the results. This despite the fact that I’ve got a higher page rank and a site that’s much more optimized for search (based on their own Web master guidelines) than some sites that beat me.
I’m really pretty baffled by the drop.

This happened to me when I relaunched my site, just before I joined 9rules. I used to be the top result for “Eastaugh”; now I don’t appear until the third page.

Update – It seems like Google added some sort of filter to their results. It looks like it’s intended to “downgrade” duplicate content. The problem is that it can’t really tell between a link to a site and duplicate content. At least that’s how it works in practice.
SO, in essence, it could very well place more value on an old, outdated site that has a page that LINKS to a good content page than the good content page itself.
I’m not 100% sure how it works, only that it doesn’t work very well and lots of legit sites are payiing the price. Again, we can ulitmately blame spammers for this.

Yeah, I suspect that part of my problem may be to do with the fact that I have two domains pointing to the same site, ionfish.co.uk and ionfish.hwcommunity.com.

I think your point about google giving higher results to the older site shows that google algroythm currently is very scrwey.. It’s problems unfortuantely are not well known to the majority of the world using google though…
