One of the things that’s cool about DreamHost is the ability to suggest something and then have other users vote on it. Well one of the things I voted on was recently implemented and I’m sure many are glad it was.
DreamHost now supports Ruby on Rails. The one thing I kept hearing about from people who were interested in DreamHost but were reluctant. It’s cool news! Especially for me because I’ve been learning how to program (a bit) with Ruby on Rails recently.
From the newsletter:
If I wasn’t making myself clear, DreamHost now supports Ruby on Rails right out of the box (so no further need to follow the crazy instructions for doing it yourself like people were posting at wiki.dreamhost.com), along with FastCGI (which you pretty much need - unless you prefer Ruby on Snails).
Did I also mention that their newsletter is one of the best I get. It’s just funny enough to get me to read it every time. If you were waiting on this to check DreamHost out, you’ve got no excuses now.

My preferred hosting partner is Dreamhost and I’ll tell you why:
- It’s a very good deal. My hosting package costs me less than $10 a month right now and it can handle all the bandwidth, all the space and everything else I need to run Asterisk. I’ve even got more than one domain running with my package. I may upgrade, and if I do so, the choices are all pretty amazing.
- The service is excellent. I’ve had very few problems with my service, but the few I’ve had have been handled promptly and with a great attitude.
- The knowledge base and community features. Dreamhost hosts quite a few successful domains and as you can imagine has experience with all sorts of issues. I find that I use their knowledge base and support forums to get answers to many questions I’ve got about my sites. They’re easy to use and full of great info.
- The Dreamhost Web Panel. They’re administration interface makes it very easy for even an inexperienced DIYer to get things done. There is easy accessible online help and much of it is pretty straightforward anyway. You can install Wordpress or a Wiki with one-click, set up a MySQL data base and lots more, all by yourself.
- The referral program. Dreamhost makes is worth your while to spread the word about them, just like I’m doing right now. It’s a great service so it makes it much easier to get behind as well.
If you’re looking for a good host, give Dreamhost a try.
